Our churches have pew after pew (and pulpit after pulpit) of selfish, proud, petty, lustful, greedy people. Many of them are trying to put to death the deeds of the flesh, but it is slow, hard, sometimes inconsistent work. And other churchgoers are simply unregenerate, sitting in church a couple of times a month out of custom or obligation.
