Cornelius van Til hat Francis Schaeffer 1969 einen Brief geschrieben, in dem er auf dessen Buch „The God who Is There“ Bezug nimmt. Neben dem Inhalt ist auch Aufbau und Art und Weise der (kritischen) Entgegnung spannend. Van Til äussert sich dazu, wie er seinen Nachbarn vom Glauben erzählt.
Eines der Kernargumente betrifft die Fähigkeit des natürlichen Menschen:
The “natural man” assumes that he himself, being “just there,” can relate the space-time facts which are “just there” by means of a “principle of rationality” that is “just there” to one another or that if he cannot do this, no one can.
