The share of the public that favors a marriage in which husband and wife both work and take care of the house and children is up from 48% in 1977 to 62% in 2010. During the same period, the share that prefers the model of the breadwinner husband and homemaker wife is down from 43% to 30%.
Bei den unter 30-jährigen beträgt der Anteil der Befürworter sogar 78 vs. 22 %. Die Realität zeigt gerade bei diesen jungen Paaren jedoch ein anderes Bild:
(W)e found that 57% of young married couples (where the wife is younger than 30) are in a dual-income marriage, compared with 62% of couples in their 30s and 40s. These young couples also are more likely than older ones to include a breadwinner husband and homemaker wife (32% do).
